We sell equipment. We are not a franchise. We do not charge up front franchise fees, require you to use our name, or tell you how to run your business. According to its Franchise Disclosure Document, Smash My Trash sells similar trucks to ours, but as part of a franchise, charges you $49,500 for the franchise, an 8% royalty on your gross sales, and between $220,000 and $240,000 for what we believe is inferior equipment. On October 16, 2020, SMT and its CEO were sued by one of its largest franchisees for allegedly misrepresenting the business opportunity that it offered. On December 15, 2020, the United States District Court dismissed the lawsuit but ordered that the case be referred to arbitration. It also denied SMT’s attempt to seal the proceedings from the public. For a copy of the complaint and the court order, click here.
Rotating Compactor. Dumpster Devil has the heaviest drum in the industry. Our higher weight means faster compaction, which increases your efficiency. And it means greater compaction, which saves your customers more hauls.
Trucks. Some compactors use a sliding bed, which requires a longer truck. Our truck is shorter and thus more maneuverable, and our fixed bed has no sliding parts to maintain.
Driver safety and comfort. Driver safety and comfort is a big deal. Our equipment is completely controlled by the driver via a joystick and video monitors, right from the truck's cab. The driver never has to leave the comfort and safety of the cab. This greatly reduces driver fatigue and safety risks, especially in harsh conditions like rain, snow and excessive heat. It dramatically increases your efficiency on every job because it eliminates the need for the driver to go from cab to compactor and back. These features can enable you to compact 10% more dumpsters daily, so you can maximize revenues and minimize overtime. If you're dead set on an external cab, we offer that too.
Operating costs. You'll pay a franchise around 10% of your revenues every year in royalties and fees. If you generate $500,000 per year per truck, that's $50,000 right off the top, every year, for every truck you operate. You still have to do the heavy lifting: sales and operations.
Efficiency. Compared to compactors which utilize an exterior cab (including a model we still offer), Dumpster Devil's joystick-controlled compactor can yield 10% higher efficiency. That adds up. For a truck generating $500,000 in revenue per year, 10% higher efficiency means you can earn an additional $50,000 every year. That's $50,000 for every truck you operate.
Consider the next 5 years. At $50,000 increased annual efficiency and $50,000 lower annual operating costs, that's $100,000 in additional annual income. That's $100,000 extra money in your pocket for each truck you operate. Here's what that means over the next 5 years:
Equipment costs. Is the franchise making a big mark up on its equipment, on top of hefty franchise fees and royalties? And how does their equipment perform? We encourage you to compare for yourself. We believe that our equipment is lower cost, more efficient, requires less maintenance, is safer and more comfortable for the driver, and is more maneuverable.
No franchise fee. According to public documents, a franchise will charge you an up-front fee of up to $49,500 for an area limited to 200,000 people. You'll pay more if you want to venture further. Ten years from now, you'll have to re-up those fees. Rather than charge you, we take the opposite approach. If you have the desire and skills to operate a region of multiple trucks, but lack the capital to fund the equipment, we may be interested in investing in you.
